Record

In 1787 Ephraim Brasher, a New York goldsmith and silversmith, petitioned the state to mint coins and struck gold doubloons marked with his EB punch. This is the only example with the punch on the eagle's breast. Heritage sold it in January 2005 for $2,990,000, graded NGC XF45. In December 2011 the dealer Steven L. Contursi sold it through Blanchard and Company of New Orleans to an undisclosed Wall Street investment firm for nearly $7.4 million, then the most paid for a coin minted in the United States.
