Provenance and history
On 25 July 1965 Dylan took the main stage at the Newport Folk Festival with an electric band and this Stratocaster, a set that split the folk audience and became a turning point for folk rock. The guitar was later left on a private plane flown for Dylan's management by the New Jersey pilot Vic Quinto, and stayed with his family for decades. In 2012 the PBS series History Detectives authenticated it for his daughter, Dawn Peterson, after questions from Dylan's representatives. Christie's in New York sold it in December 2013 for $965,000, then a record for a guitar.
