Record

From 1909 the American Tobacco Company inserted its T206 'white border' cards of 524 players into cigarette packs. Wagner refused to allow production of his card to continue, so only a small number were issued; estimates of how many run from 50 to 200. Jefferson R. Burdick, a Syracuse electrician, devised the numbering used for American trade cards in The American Card Catalog, where the T206 Wagner was listed in 1933 at $50, then the highest price of any baseball card. Burdick gave his collection of more than 300,000 items of printed ephemera to The Met from the late 1940s until his death in 1963; this card belongs to it.
