Record

Two of the nine 300 SLR racing chassis were built as closed coupés; Rudolf Uhlenhaut, who designed the 300 SLR, used one as his personal car, and it was among the fastest road cars of its day. The 300 SLR won the 1955 Mille Miglia with Stirling Moss and navigator Denis Jenkinson. On 5 May 2022, in a sale held with RM Sotheby's at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, the company sold one of the two coupés from its classic collection to a private collector for €135 million, to fund a 'Mercedes-Benz Fund' for scholarships in environmental science and decarbonisation. The other coupé remains with the company and on display at the museum.
