Record

The United States Mint delivered 1,758 Flowing Hair dollars on 15 October 1794, most of them poorly struck on a press too small for the coin. This example, among the earliest struck and prepared with special care, is graded Specimen-66 by the Professional Coin Grading Service. Steven Contursi owned it from 2003 until 2010, when it sold for $7.85 million to the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation. Stack's Bowers Galleries sold it at auction in January 2013 for $10,016,875, then the highest price paid for any coin.
